who makes a good 8" midbass

yes but it'll pull your stage to the rear badly i did that once in one of my older cars very bad idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Really ? I guess all those people that listened and judged Richard's GN (or a number of the Speaker Works vehicles) didnt know a thing about staging and imaging ...

You probably had rattles, and that rattling drew your attention to the back

any speaker added to the rear will pull the sound to the rear. now if you mean run mids in the doors that can be done. those 8s i linked were in kicks of a car.
Werewolf had some nice posts on ECA explaining how and why midbass in the rear could (and should) work.

I've been seriously considering picking up a pair of these;

But it depends on how high you were needing them to play. These wouldn't work in a 2-way unless you were using horns.

i guess i should have been more specific about my previous car too it wasn't much of a "cometition car" it wasn't tweaked to tuned to sound correct. it wa a pair of tweets and a pair of 4s up front and some 6x9 mids in the back. no eq no time delay. just straight sound. now sure if you have all the time and money that speaker works has you can make it sound right but when all you have is 2 amps one for subs one for the rest you do with what you have.

Then is the problem that midbass in the rear doesn't work......or that your setup didn't work with rear mounted midbass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Two completely different things. And it's a fallacy to draw conclusions about the former from the later.

Will be a three way set-up. Back when Sq was truly Sq. Alot of the cars had midbass in the back, Richard Buick, Harry Acura, Best sounding car I ever got to set in was a 89 T-bird. Horns in the front with 6.5 in the doors, 10 in the rear side panels and 15s running free air. The 6.5 were high passes at 250hz. The midbass was provided by the 10s in the quarters.

Was looking a the CSS and the Mach 5 6.5 also. Lot of choices, found a pr of the JBL for a nice price. Going to contact JBL Monday and see if they can still recone them.

My midbass are in my doors, they are damped and sealed very well. Speakers are mounted to baffles built onto the door itself. I can get about 3.25 of depth. Have a new set of doorpanels coming to see what kind off mods I can do with out destroying the look of my car. Trying to keep the car as stealth as possable.

Mids and highs are provided buy the Gti's in the kicks along with a small TB titanium tweeter mounted in the A-pillars crossed over at 8.5khz
