who is man enough?

I've been saving up for one of those with the 6'' barrel. The trigger on them is damn smooth.
To answer the kiwi's question; they are useful for when you are hiking in brown bear territory. I have a .357 that I carry when hiking when it's just black bears and mountain lions. But the .44 is good for being more effective in killing smaller beasts as well. My dad's detective friend used to carry a Model 29 around when the Dirty Harry movies came out, when the .38 special bullets bounced off an assailants windshield, his .44 mag punched through. Plus, they are just damn fun to own and shoot.
Fair enough, saves hiking with a rifle on your back I guess. wenn_du_weinst why do you carry a gun on you most of the time? Just for protection? I'd hate to live anywhere that I felt unsafe enough that I had to carry a gun.

no petty theft was the biggest increase, making firearms illegal doesn't take it out of the hands of criminals. It only affect the people who follow the law. In America it's much easier to get guns illegally then legally.edit: 90% of the time I'm not at work I have either a 9mm or a .380 acp on me.

my avatar is always on me and sometimes the nickel plated 84fs if I'm working sometimes the 92 prints too much through my shirt.

I have a CCW and carry a Ruger LCR (soon to be a M&P 9 Shield) from time to time. Idaho is safer than most places, but still; it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Also, it's pretty hard to carry a police officer around with you. I like to live by the Heinlein mindset that an armed society is a polite society. I don't go around looking for opportunities to shoot someone or brandish my firearm around. If the situation arose, I'd only draw my CCW in a last resort.

I live in an area with a lot of coyote's and cougars. That is why I carry at night, during the day is just to I get used to having it on me.
go long enough with it on and it feels like you left your wallet/cellphone if your without it, it's now the first thing I grab in the morning and the last thing I put under the pillow at night.

Why do you need such a large caliber? That'd **** to lug around, I want a 9mm or .380. There's really no need for a .44, .45, .357, .50 to carry every day. Whose going to need THAT much take down power?
2 words: Stopping power. A 9mm/.380/.38sp does not have the knock down power larger calibers have. In my eyes, anything smaller than a .40 and you are losing critical defensive points.

Walther ppk? And that 1911 is gorgeous.

Shot placement > power

Even though .40S&W is good balance between 9mm and .45, I hate the snappy recoil. If .45 acp wasn't so darn expensive I'd carry a 1911 for the winter since a coat can cover it more effectively. In the meantime, a single stack 9 or 5 shot .38 is good enough especially for summer time. I find that I can get back on target better with smaller calibers. .380 is the bare minimum I'd use for CCW. I wouldn't even consider .32 acp, .25 or a .22.

Basically I carry .357/.44 for big critters. 9mm/.38spl/.45 for the less respectful.

Shot placement > power
I do not buy the shot placement argument. In a life threatening encounter, proper shot placement can be difficult. I would rather have the added advantage of having the knock down power to weaken the threat so the defender can get separation and eliminate the threat.

if i had access id shoot it.... hell id use every shot i had at my disposal... no fear.
i carry a kimber ultra carry tle .45 daily, i refuse to carry anything less powerful than a .45
I have the pro carry II but can't stand it as far as the whole single action cocked&locked for daily also the low round count gets me too, I just carry 147g +p+ pdx-1 they will knock down rather well not as much as the 45 but I do have 21 in the weapon! just as it looks here

i dont carry cocked & locked, i keep mine on half ****. low round count doesnt bother me bc im a **** good shot, and with 1 extra mag i have 15, thats plenty to get myself out of a situation. if i need more than that i prolly goofed and shouldnt have put myself in that situation anyway. but nice piece there.

isn't your 1911 sa only? mine is and with a scary light trigger! so it's cocked&lock and I don't care for the safety, the 92fs on the other hand is my baby it has a full on trigger job cryogenic 15lb recoil spring polish SS guide rod wolff INS lightweight trigger system and the beretta factory weight hammer D spring, so even with the da first pull it's only like 9.5 pounds and 4 pounds for SA with no creep at all just a nice crisp break.

I also carry a second 20rnd back up mag but I'm planning for the whole "stranded for days scenario" and I have no worry about my aim but there are gangs where I live and I like the thought of not having to re-load in the middle of a fire fight because if I'm pinned down behind something taking fire not every shot I fire is going to land in a vital spot, so I like having a bunch!

Gotta really read into those statistics though; it may be that crime increased because people were getting charged for breaking the new firearms law, not because the lack of guns was causing crime. Then again, it may inspire confidence in criminals if they know that the person they're pulling a knife on doesn't have a 9mm in their jacket. Hard to say without the raw stats in front of you.
Look up the stories of Kennesaw, Georgia, where gun ownership was mandated compared to Morton Grove, Illinois. In the Illinois city, firearm ownership was completely banned.

Do some research on those two cities and then make a decision.
