WHO has or HAD an Orion 250 HCCA ?

I am wanting to know what other peoples take is on this amplifier. It's on its way right now to my house. The Orion 250 HCCA Digital Reference. ( Old school amp ).

If you have one , or have once owned one please tell me what your personal opinion is about it.

I've used 225s and 2100s and a G5 250. They are solid amps. The only gripe I have with the DigiRef amps is the hardwired power and ground (8ga) and the Molex speaker connection. Other than that really nice solid amps. Make sure you got one of the ones that can be bridged without the adapter before you try to bridge it.

Agreed, nice amps in there day. I remember having a 225 back in 1995. Good clean power.

I have old school Orions...

250HCCA

225HCCA

2150Gt

220GT

280GX

Also, a bridging module, crossover, in-dash EQ... The 220GT I bought new, and it has never been hooked up and is still in the box! The 2150 was still being used at two ohms stereo on a pair of JL 10W4's daily until Christmas, when my car was run into and totalled!

They are current hungry, and my 250 that I competed with has been repaired twice over the years by TIPS (Robert Rayfield).

I had one back in the day. I used it to push 4x12"s and it got very loud and very hot! As mentioned earlier, very current hungry. Also, as mentioned earlier, the older one's require the Orion Bridging module or and older AudioControl 2XS xover with the built in bridging module .

Whats the going rate for 250HCCA these days? They pretty old so got to watch out for busted caps/transistors I guess.

I worked on a 250r HCCA 2 years ago, it was a very nice amplifier. I think you can get them on Ebay for around $350 and up usually.

$350 seems steep.. or are you talking about a new unit, are this still around?

I dont mind paying about 100bucks for a used unit to power my 15" subbie (250rms rated)

I have a hcca 250g4, IDK if this is the one you are talking about. From the posts it doesnt look like it. But I like mine alot, they sound good and dont kill the electrical. they do get pretty hot though and turn off rather quickly after getting there.

THIS IS THE LOUDEST LITTLE AMPLIFIER I HAVE EVER OWNED ...

I swear it sounds like it pounds harder than my Hifonics Brutus 1500D did with my mofo 12.

It pounds harder than my Lanzar Vibe 268 did on a pair of 15" Orion Xtr's.

It has people in my family((OHMS LAW IGNORANT PEOPLE //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )) Baffled !! It drains my freegin 2500 Van !

I love it .. Most people think its just a 250 Watt amplifier , but the loudest one they have ever heard before.

From a shop I ran years ago, I had in my car (2) 225's and a 275. I want to find a good 225 or 275 sometime in the future.

I dont get it, if its on the way to ur house I dont think anyone's opinion of it is really gonna do anything since u already bought it.
