my buddy is getting a wireless router and wireless network card. will any of them do? i just dont want him to get disconnected when his cordless phone rings.. im not sure what frequency bandwidth his cordless uses but i want to avoid the possibility of it happening since he will be using his new computer to play games.. i dont want him to get disconnected in the middle of a match on-line.

will these routers do?

D-link DI-524

linksys WRT54G

I've been taking CCNA classes for a while now. Have had a good deal of experience with wireless routers and such. Personally I prefer netgear great company, but D-Link > Linksys any day. Linksys routers seem to have had a lot of game compatibility issues in the past which never made me a fan. (Talking about port forwarding and stuff) But what's his pricerange? If he's a real gamer he could always benefit from a Super G router its 108 mbps tranfser rate. I used to game online all the time and I did notice a difference in the regular 802.11g and the super g version.

well my buddy just called from fry's and i told him to go with a netgear super G router.. its this one: Netgear WGT-624

I hope it doesnt disconnect if he has a 2.4 ghz phone because im reading that this router operates at a 2.4 ghz frequency band.. what do u think?

Most people praise Linksys. Personally, I have never had a good experience with linksys. Every router I've had experiences with has had something wrong with it, and this is talking about 10 routers or so. I'm currently using a netgear and couldn't be happier. The WRT54G does have some advantages over most routers because of the hacked firmwares out, but it would not be my first choice.

Wish we had a fry's here I would love to see wth it is lol. He shouldn't even worry about the 2.4ghz thing, he should be fine. My router is right next to my phone, same frequency no problems what soever. But just remember, his microwave more likely then not runs on the same frequency. If he's not having problems now he should not have them later.

well about two years ago i use to use a wireless card. and my wireless card would not work as long as my 2.4 ghz phone was ringing. it was frustrating.. seriously.. in the middle of a counter-strike match and all of a sudden you get disconnected while owning.. it really gets you mad. hahah

Ahhh, the days of playing counter-strike man were those fun. I used to be pretty intense. But it got to addicting and it just wasn't worth it anymore. But he should be ok with the router because most of not all of them operate at 2.4ghz anyways.
