Which Truck to Get?

Not sure exactly how much I got to spend but I want to try and keep it around $30K at most. That's including special offers and stuff. I know it's asking quite a lot for a new 4x4 full size for 30, but I may be able to go up a little more just depends.

After reading up on the '13 Ram 1500 it seems like a nice truck, of course that is MotorTrend.

I do enjoy the newer Dodges but time will tell how they hold up... I have driven the new Ecoboost F-150's and they are very well tested and can get mid 20's for milage... Thats a nice truck though to be taken down the back roads for hunting though...

It will also be a daily driver for awhile. I don't drive a whole lot, just to the store and my friends houses. My 06 Malibu only has 46K miles and would have less if.it were not for my trips from So Cal to Idaho. So far Ive pretty much singled it down to American trucks. Just need to go to the dealerships and see what I like the most.

The 2013 Ram is the truck of the year in the Car & Driver or Motortrend (or one of those magazines I was looking at the other day). The 2013 got a refresh and has a lot of new features.

As soon as I land a job and can make a payment, I plan on picking up a 2013 Ram single cab shortbed... Will be either the Express or even the R/T if I can find a good price on one.

EDIT: Just read the second page after posting and saw you mentioned the Truck of the Year thing. Either way, a Ram Express with a 5.7l Hemi making 390hp in a truck that costs in the mid-low 20s and getting something BRAND NEW is huge.

yes i did, i kno he isnt planning on towing anything, but with the deisel and the optional lower ratio axles its a torque monster. personally i prefer deisel trucks to gas trucks, i was giving him my opinion. if he intends to offroad torque is a BIG plus. and for low RPM torque you cant beat a deisel. plus deisels have a much longer lifespan than gas engines(1,000,000 miles with regular services), and you hardly ever break down in a deisel. ultimatley he will choose what he wants from the ideas given. this is my idea.
Matt
Not true about Dodge Deisels,,Our Co.owns, several Dodge Deisels, reg cab, and double cabs from turbos, to gas engines..And Ill tell ya this,,they are nothing but Pure Money Pits,So many Issues that an individual buying one, couldnt afford to keep it on the road. The Gas ones we have?POS as well,Lifters begin to knock after 100-115k miles, get chitty gas milage and ride rough as hell, and on all of them, they have a crap load of Plastic goods that dont hold up,such as the control switches,.2001-2012 Dodges blow..Only reason being bought, due to a cheap azz priced tag,JUNK!***** problems, several sensor issues(stupid sensor issues),and we maintain them to the fullest!!A real working man just cant afford/go broke trying to maintain these trucks..As the saying goes...get what you Pay for...Want something different in a used Truck?/Get a Ridgeline..Ive never heard about any issues with it,other than its a solid body truck.

We also have a 2012 Toyota Tundra,4dr loaded, and its Done well up until recently the Timing chain broke..lol approx 25k on it..Yet I have an uncle that bought one 2yrs ago, and basic maintenance and running/pulling working like a horse, and they do ride comfortably as well.Plenty of Power..I myself am a Chevy truck guy..even our old GMC work truck was bought by a coworker 2500 series 6.0 lt,3/4ton I think its an 01, and with 150k on it hard farm pulling miles, after being a service truck hauling around 10k lbs daily,it still looks great, runs smooth, and gets nice gas milage, and has boots of pep

well i guess we got lucky. the only problems he has had with that truck were front wheel bearings(his fault, wider tires all around without upgrading other things), fuel pump issues(due to him getting a chip/intake/exhaust and not upgrading to a performance pump), and recently some transmission slippage(again, only happened after 140K miles of stock power plus another 50K of chipped power.)

We just had to replace an engine Deisel engine in the 2011 truck/Dodge..a little over 7grand$$$ yet, still cheaper than buying another 25k$+truck,,it only had just a little over 130k on it??Rides Sloppy,Seats are like sitting on concrete floor..cheesy junk interior,,just looks nice when new..wait till approx a 200 mile trip, then tell me how nice that interior looks then..lol..Fords, we had before Dodges, and againn..Cheap Chits..with a 1k load, they Squat like they dont have any suspension, and struggle to pull the load..Fair on durability,Gas milage really Blows!Always front end issues, and electronic fuel issues/expensive repair..

2010 Dodge 4.3 v8 short bed we had with 139k on it, the lifters were going bad, with a paper trail of 3k-3500 oil changes,***** service ect, tires shocks ect,..THIS TRUCK NEVER CARRIED A LOAD

I would think u can find a near new truck for 30k. Probably even new. Maybe run out tomorrow and see what end of year deal u can get

I vote chevy but thats me. Ive owned them all, thiugh dodge was a 98 and ford was a 03 or something so not really relevant. None of them gave me issues but i never kept any long enough to find out. Ive owned several silverados and two tahoes. All have treated me well
