Which size inline fuse?

Running 15ft of 4awg cable to a single amp putting out 1200 watts. Amp has 40Amp X 3 (Linked 240 Amp) fuses on it if that makes a difference.
What size fuse should I get?
Always fuse for the wire, not the amp. Also, 40 times 3 is 120, not 240? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Troof!

1/0ga= 350a

2ga= 225a

4ga= 150a

8ga= 100a

10ga= 60a

get ANL with that accepts 4ga-0ga. U'll be happy in the long run when u decide to upgrade ur wire. ANL accepts fuses up to 300Amps
I've seen ANL up to 500 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

And no, AGU fuses wouldn't work fo rthis case. That's more for 8 gauge. I think the highest AGU is 80a. Maybe 100, I don't know.

You should go with ANL if you have the money to allow it, as ANL is kinda the universal fuse for power over 1000 watts as they come in all flavors from 100a to 5 or 600amps. It will be more of a long term investment for a future upgrade //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

What your looking for is a 4gauge fuse holder with 150 amp fuse.

From BCAE website -

Wire Gauge Recommended Maximum Fuse Size

00 awg 400 amps

0 awg 325 amps

1 awg 250 amps

2 awg 200 amps

4 awg 125 amps

6 awg 80 amps

8 awg 50 amps

10 awg 30 amps

12 awg 20 amps

14 awg 15 amps

16 awg 7.5 amps

These are the recommended maximum fuse ratings for the corresponding wire size. Using a smaller fuse than what's recommended here will be perfectly safe

Other than the fact that it is underfused for the wire size.....
Is that a bad thing? I am in basically the same situation, running 4 gauge from the battery to a 1200 watt amp, but I have a 100 amp anl fuse. Would there be any benefit at all in upgrading the fuse to a 150 amp anl fuse? You can see the amps I have in my sig line, a nine.1 with 4 30 amp fuses, and I'm also running a nine.4 with 2 30 amp fuses. I know I really need to upgrade to some 1/0 gauge, but can't afford to do so right now, but so far the 4 gauge has been working fine.
