Which Ohm Subwoofer do you prefer? 2 or 4

I have always been told to buy a 4 ohm sub, but i have found one cheap that is a 2 ohm. Should i buy it or not?

It depends on the load you want to run your amp at.

Dual 2 ohm sub = 1 or 4 ohm load on the amp.

Dual 4 ohm sub = 2 or 8 ohm load on the amp.

Single 2 ohm sub = 2 ohm load on the amp.

Single 4 ohm sub = 4 ohm load on the amp.

depends on my amp

I usually like to run A/B amplifiers at 4 ohms...less strain on my electrical system and longer amp life. Most A/B amps cant take 2 ohms bridged well.

If I were to run my sub at 2 ohms (or even 1 ohm), I would but a Mono amplifer (Class D amps are pretty efficient, amd doesnt drain much from your electricals)

Well the amp I have is 600 watts at a 1 ohm load. I have been told that a 2 ohm sub will be able to broke down to 1 ohm so i can put out max power at the amp.

A subwoofer with dual 2 ohm voice coils will be able to be wired in parallel for a 1 ohm combined impedance, yes.

haha my bad i was off topic....but yea umm ive been that ohm loads dont effect the sound of the sub, so just just match the load up with the amp you will use

With lower impedence, higher distortion (THD) happens at times... depending on the amp.

So the saying that ohm loads do not effect SQ is in some cases bull.

The output impedance of most SS amps is so high that DF doesn't play as much of a part as it could with amps that have a pretty low output impedance.

what kind of a sub are we talking about here......all you said was cheap 2 ohm, is this dvc or single ?

If the amplifier is producing enough distortion that it is audible at any of it's stable impedances then you either need to 1) buy a non-broken amplifier 2) not push the amplifier so hard into clipping, or 3) the amplifier glows and you are a tube fairy.

And as Jack said...with any decent SS amplifier, damping factor is not a concern either.

The sub is a kicker solobaric l5 15". It is a dual 2 ohm sub. The amp I have for a while and have actually had pretty good success with it. It is an ample amp. It is 600 at a 1 ohm load.
