which is more accurite google maps or GPS device?

Spring break is coming up in less than two weeks and me and some of my friends are going to dallas.

According to google maps it is going to take us around 8 hours to get there.

According to my TomTom 720 GPS its going to take us around 9 hours to get there.

Why is there such a big difference between the two and which one is usually more accurate?

google maps is pretty close, but to the original question, it depends on what gps unit you have, and how you have it set!!

change the setting for route to fastest time not shortest distance

yeah ive got it set to fastest route.

and im not sure why I spelled accurate wrong. lol. first time for everything.

Google has sent me off a few times...........

Most accurate GPS I have owned has to be my Eclipse AVN5495.

Google has always said way longer for me than it actually takes.

look at the route differences, and you may find that the gps is not as up to date....I view tom tom as a cheap alternative to a good product, but that based on name and i know nothing of their software....

I had a garmin streetpilot 7500, and now I view gps on the ground as a waste of money

I've got the latest map update. Then all the other updates for the tomtom.

some times you need to take into account there speed of travel that will make a big diff.

my garmin will give accurate eta if u maintain the the posted speed limit without stops or slow downs..... so i say gps, at least mine

google maps tells you how long it takes to a destination??

BTW the routing system is different depending on GPS devices. So the time you get to the destination varies depending on which make you have. From the tests I have seen, Garmin comes out on top. TomTom,, ehh not soo good.
