My p8600 never skipped as far as i remember. But now i mostly use ipod. Let me guess do you have Kenwood that skips?

Any headunit I've had in the past 5yrs I haven't had a skipping problem with.

Honestly, I can't remember once in recent history that I've had a CD Player skip on me.

Clarion has some (Music catcher) that you can store music internaly in the unit. Works pretty good.

I havent heard my cd player skip yet.

nope, 2 AB 75.1 @ .7 ohms each and 2 DD 9515e at full tilt in an Xterra.

I'm pretty sure the stock unit will skip. I don't wanna spend money I don't have to, but I THINK some eclipse units are the only CD players that play through a memory buffer.

I'll look into Panasonic lines and Clarion...w/music catcher and eclipse and weigh my options. Thanks guys.

Honestly running the 2 12w6v2's when i was turning them up I have not had one hu keep up. I ran the higher end panasonic 9700 or 9800, a few alpines. pioneer 860mp thats why i bought the hu i have for sale has a built in 10 gig hd

Nearly all HU's have built in memory for preventing skipping. Even the OEM decks we produce have memory built in. As for Hard Drives, they are more prone to skipping than a cd deck. The Hard drive is also more prone to failure from excess vibrations. If you want to ensure your deck won't skip, the best bet is a good install. First, ensure you have the rear support screw in the deck and making contact with the car frame. If possible, strap the HU down. Third, your HU operates better at a slight tilt. Normaly 5-10 degrees. Unfortunately, this is not always possible due to the dash.

I just thought of something. Have you looked at JVCs that play from SD cards like SHX750 or SHX850 i believe. If you want quality you might be able to play WAV or some kind of other loosless format, but look into that, cause i'm not sure how it works. But it deffinetely shouldn't skip, cause the SD card is a chip & not a hard drive.

I was under the impression that ALL cd players used buffers. I had a Sony Discman back in 95 that had that.

My 7998 rarely skips, and never on a scratch-free CD. I haven't heard either of my S634 changers skip, ever...

I realize that all CD players played from a buffer, I just need a pretty large buffer.
