Which crossovers are better?

Well as of right now I am using a Lanzar vibe 3-way x-over on the whole system. I am getting a ton of eng. noise in my speakers. I mean I have always gotten a little in my old systems but wasnt very noticable. Would it solve the problem if I run the internal x-overs in the amps I am using or is it better to run the 3-way? I eventually want to get a better 3-way but dont have the cash flow right now. I am doing my ampboard this week and just wondering what the goods if any and bads would be if I go that route. Thanx;)

Thanks for the good read. I am a little confused at what you are saying though. Should I or should I not use a dmm? I have never really been good at tunning my system. I am going tomorrow to a local shop to see what they can do. Thanks all.

basically, if you use a DMM you will get maximum undistorted power.

But this isn't really the goal of setting the gains.

typically, you will want a higher (more distortion, possiblity of equipment damage) or lower gain then this optimum point.

obviously a higher gain then the DMM set point might be bad -- you have increased distortion and a chance of damaging equipment.

A lower gain might be needed because the speaker is currently too loud, or is distorting because of the high power level. lowering gain would fix these.

If you have a HU or other things with volume controls, you can then set all the gains to the optimum points and use the controls on the HU to adjust the volumes easily.

in short, the DMM method, as typically described, will not produce good results unless you can use something else to control the volume of each speaker. It is a tool, not a rule.
