Which amp should I use for alpine type R's

I am looking at getting 2 12" alpine type R subs. I just want to know would there be a sound difference between a 2 channel amp or a 1 channel amp. Second if i use a one channel amp, how do I hook up two subs? I put the positive to one sub and negative to the other sub and then connect the leftover pos and neg on my subs, right? What amp(s) would you guys recommend for 2 type r's
