Which 6.5 Comp Speakers? $300 budget.

UPDATE: I listened to some components from the only credible store in my area. They had Focal's and Hertz speakers and I listened to them all. I wasn't too pleased with either of them honestly. Focals midrange was decent but the tweeter was too colorful in the wrong ways, imo. Vocals on the Hertz's sounded artificial and somewhat lifeless. It's kind of hard because they were all on soundboards, but compared to my current morels and previous Image Dynamics comps they were not even close.
Are there any comps out there that have similar characteristics to the Chameleon components? I'd go ahead and just get the same ID's I used to have, but since ID is pretty much no longer I don't want to risk any potential warranty issues...
which morels do you have?

i know Eric left ID, and he's a friend, but dont listen to the hearsay of warranty issues, etc.... ID has taken care of every issue thats come up from any customer of mine since Eric had left... I dont carry ID like i did since Eric left, but i also have had NO issues.. ID isnt going anywhere, so if thats what you like and prefer, by all means make your own decision and purchase them if you want... As a dealer, im waiting to see Eric's next Venture..

I agree with pinoy209. I heard some Hertz coaxials in a store & I liked how they sounded. I intalled them in my vehicle and I was extremely disappointed with them. I'm planning on getting some components soon too. Image Dynamics or HAT's is the direction I'm going.

IMO listening to speakers in a car compared to in a store are very different.
Exactly. I know I'm going to get some flack for this, but this is why I still always go and listen to speakers at brick and mortar stores, but always leave unimpressed. I hate to say it, but I previously purchased my last two sets of components blindly. The IDs and the Morels I currently have I bought without ever listening too previously. Yet I liked them both. This was purely due to all of YOU guys and other people on forums. It's subjective and difficult at times, but after reading through each persons recs. and stories and reviews, and sifting what's been said and what looks good to you, I swear it's almost easier to purchase that way with better outcomes. Most of the products we like are only for sale online anyways, and that is a reason why forums are created, right? Who knows, maybe if I ever heard those IDs in a store I might have hated them, and thus would have kicked myself in the foot...

you need a set of Soundstream RF60c comps. Trust me, they fit the bill and sound awesome.
This is the first recommendation of these speakers... Time to research! Thanks for the rec.

This is reassuring. Thanks for the post.

Sounds like we're not the only ones...

Also, on a side note, I think I'm going to be putting in full rear-fill in my Explorer, as this is not a SQ setup like in my Camaro. So spending $200 for a pair versus $350 or so saves me hundreds of dollars. I was originally going to spend more money on front comps and just get some rear coaxials for cheaper and run them off the HU, but I'm not so sure I want to go that route anymore...

Well everybody, I ended up purchasing two pairs of Massive CK6 Stage V. 6.5 comps. I decided to put comps in the rear as well, so 170 shipped per pair, new, was a good deal, imo. I'll let you all know how it goes!

I bought my morels blindly also, and will never look back. Best descision i ever made. I never even heard of morels untill i joined this forum, lol. But when they went on sale at amazon for $85 , well how could i resist?

I have heard the massive mids are nice, but that the highs are too bright. interested to see what you say.

Pretty easily tamed, but the tweeters could be noticeable before mild tuning. Overall, good set for the money, and many satisfied customers. Even if he ends up replacing the tweeters down the road, the mids will keep his investment safe. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have heard the same, but considering I'm putting these in the stock location in the doors so they will be way off-axis, I'll just set the tweeters to -3 on the crossover as well and see how she sounds. If I still end up disliking it, I can always add a 2-ohm resister inline to the tweeter as many have done to tame it as well, or get other tweeters. But for $170 shipped I can't resist //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Most of you that have heard that are prob. refering to the STAGE III design.. they were a little bright, but as stated could be tamed down easily... The NEW STAGE V's are not as bright as before...
