my 06 XXX 15 ran fine for 45 mins at a time on my RF 4k, can only say 45mins because thats longest at one time i listened to it song after song before i was to where i needed to be.

since you have exp with the newer xxx, what would you say its most comparible to spl/sq wise from other subs youve heard? also mind me asking what highs amp and comp set you were running with it?

ok then how about this, with a 200amp alt and 2 d3100s with a xxx or btl (whichever your more experienced with) knowing its coils wired down to 1ohm along with imp rise, wat range of wattage should i be seeing running it for daily app which is supposedly "dynamic" power?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Since music is dynamic it will change with the note. Honestly there really is no way to tell without actually measuring with a dmm and clamp meter but even that can change due to coils heating up and box rise and such.

Test tones will give you your 3000 watts which is usually what the tests are done with. When your music requires 3000 or however many watts the sundown will be able to deliver the power you need.

Honestly you shouldnt worry about what the power output is per say as you wont be able to hear a difference we were just pointing out the flaw in somebodies logic.

Also I doubt you really could go wrong with the btl or the xxx.

if he has an HO alt. and Big ole battery, he should get about 3000 outta that amp when its crankin big notes... obviously he's not gettin that power on a 60hz note, but at tuning he should see around that...
Power Output at Maximum Volume before Protection:

67.4 volts

77.1 amps

5196 watts

Power supply voltage was 16.5 volts at rest dropping to around 14.5 volts. So consider this a 14.5 volt output rating.

Our clamp meter ran out of steam at 400 amps so we measured efficiency at lower levels:

3294 watts @ 84% efficiency (252 amps draw)

3938 watts @ 81% efficiency (316 amps draw)

4424 watts @ 74% efficiency (392 amps draw)

We didn't have an electrical setup to run 12.8 volt testing available at this time.

now im not saying 3000 on the dot, but he should get close, with 200-250A alt. runnin about 14V

he seems fairly new, you guys know what he's lookin for, he's not gonna understand all these technicalities that i've never seen you guys talk about before
This test was done on a DCR of .7 with a rise to .87 on a test tone like most amps are tested. In a daily app. you imp rise can flux from 1ohm to 100ohm depending on your box, tunning, and material played. This test was also done on a 16V setup.

On a standard 12/14V setup wiht a DCR of .6 ohms with a imp rise to 1.33 achieved a magnatude of 3237 watts.

You may see power ranges as high as 3000+ to as low as a few hundred watts. This is typical of ALL amps. As I stated above it is due to imp. rise, Voltage dip, and over all system design and install.

i know i said i was done, but i had to respond to this. thats a HELL of a impedance rise. apparent power is skewed worse and worse the farther you get away from the dcr.

id say this is one of the few examples where multiplying amps and volts and not even accounting for power factor would still give you a very accurate depiction of the actual power being put out. nice job!

Why did this question get so technical? When someone asks about which 3000wrms amp to buy in the amp section you don't see everyone recommending a 5000wrms amp to get the actual 3000wrms. My recommendation is to stick with the sundown 3000d and although I've never heard the XXX, I would go with that.

The thread started off asking about a 15" woofer to run off 3000-4000wrms, not even an amplifier question. Just how ca.com works //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

it morphed when someone asked why his 3K amp wasn't doing 3K all day.

And I know I used a rather large gap in my example of imp rise but it was used as a sort of hammer to push what I was trying to convene.

gotta love when n00bz get all this really nice equipment and dont understand that music is dynamic and there will be an impedance rise affecting that there wont be a true 3k watts at all times.....

Everybody starts off as a noob and isn't the forum here for people to ask questions and learn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I'm not trying to start anything but the OP said he read a bunch of reviews and threads about the 3000d and that's what he wants. Let's just change the question to: Which 15" would be best on a Sundown 3000d?
