Poults (baby turkey) warm my heart. I always make drives during late May/June specifically to try and see poults. Sad thing is, > 2 poult survival per nesting hen is a good rate..Majority of them die within the first two weeks.
And yes, its sad. If half the ones hatched (approx 10) survived, there would be way more turkeys. That would equal out to about 2.5 gobblers per hen. I only harvest 3 in MS every year, and a few in other states.
