Where did you guys learn how to install car audio?

I know everyone is telling you that trial and error is the best way to learn. There's a simple reason for that. That IS the best way to learn, but do your research before you buy/install anything and you will have a lot better luck than just trying random stuff. Someone mentioned Crutchfield earlier, and although a lot of people may think it's stupid Crutchfield can offer you a lot of support when it comes to car audio. They have a lot of write ups on how to do common things. Also, hit up car audio manufacturer's sites. JL has some really useful tutorials on their site. And of course if you get stuck you can always ask the always friendly people on the board. Usually someone will help you. Just take your time and think about what you're doing and you will be fine. In this area sometimes careless=bad things. Like getting shocked (not too fun), or blowing/frying something (even less fun).

actually i've never been shocked by my car...

grabbed both prongs on a wall outlet plug...

twice in a row with a lightbulb socket

twice in a row with my PS2 pulled apart and my hand on the power supply

:p

gots more too, lol

did accidentaly connect the + and - terminals on my car battery with a wrench once...lots of sparks, lol

I've been shocked once when my mom flipped the breaker while i was changing a light switch.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

Learned by reading on forums beginning when I was 13 years old, because I always was fascinated with how an audio system worked and how subwoofers could shake buildings.

Learned how to run wires and did on Christmas morning when I was 16 years old. Installed 2 JL 10w0's and a Jensen amp with a Pioneer deck.

Been bumping and getting better at installing ever since.

taught myself, like i have with almost everything else i know. first time i ever attempted to install a amp kit and stuff on my buddies car when i was about 15 i got everything right on the first try. Been doing it and buildin boxes for friends ever since.
