When you have subs do you ever turn the speaker bass down so it can go louder?

thats because the stock speakers are crappy and distort a high volumes. So reducing the bass would reduced the distortion at certain frequencies.

doesn't that only depend if the boost clips your speakers or not? i thought that's why if you say like boost at certain frequencies, you adjust the gain for it so they won't clip...or am i wrong?

If you adjust your gains to avoid clipping with the bass boost set to on, it will not damage the speakers. But bass boost is still generally bad. Because of the spike in output the boost creates, you will have to adjust your gains down to avoid clipping. The boost only boosts a small freq band, but adjusting the gain down decreases output at all freqs. So to accommodate a boost in a relatively small range, you will attenuate output for all the bass the subs produce. There will be no danger of damaging the speakers, but its not exactly a recipe for high fidelity.

I turn the Hi pass filter up as high as possible on my HU. For me that is 220hz. And keep the bass at 0

Unless you have specifically assigned midbass drivers, you are missing about 120hz of range in your system. Most mids, if set properly can handle going down to 140-80hz depending on size and power put to them.

I've run a good few coaxs that I crossed at 63hz

Fwiw, I cross my int's at 100 or 125hz, bass is flat on the eq.

This..most subwoofers in correctly built boxes will drown out any bass coming from your 6.5s (or whatever you have). Set it down to 0, let the sub do its' job.

I think he meant putting the bass on your hu as low as possible no bass at all and turn your treble up, so all high frequency (tweeter sound) will go to your stock speakers and your subwoofer with an amp will give you your base.
