as long as the draw of the audio system permits and you cant really know until its put in and your listening habit...

i run 500 or so watts rms system on a 70 amp alt that is 18 yrs old and has 130k+ miles on it lol. i doubt it as bad as you think it will be. worst case i can think of is (depends on car) they might have a slow regulator..thats not that hard to put up with or overcome. this is saying you plan on running 1000 watts or less and another thing to remember is it isnt always drawing alot of current so to music your subs may not ever see max power from the amp.

Oh reallly? Thought 117amp alt was bad, but yeah your right, there isnt much demanding especially since I dont have a junk load of lights on it or a wench. I was looking at a 5channel amp to amp the speakers and sub total of 700watts. Guessing that would be ok to run? But you really think 1000 watts would be fine in the jeep ...

117 is a big stock alt, no doubt about that.

My old alt was 75A in a car that most owners believe had too small of an alt for just stock electronics.

I ran right around 1000 rms in it for 2 years before the alt finally died, and it had 226k on it.

I found a 110A in a JY that was basically a drop-in. I'm now running an under-rated 1060w and that alt doesn't miss a beat.

Imtfox, a moderator at SD has been running 2000w+ on a 95A saturn alt for years. Of course he doesn't blast it 24/7, but it just goes to show you what can be done.

The rms current draw of 1000w of a/b power is only going to be 30-40A, and that's at full volume. Probably closer to 20 at "listening" levels.

Ive been looking at subs and amp that are around the 300watt range because of tht but if you been running 500watts on a 70amp alt that is that old and beat I guess...I should have no problem running about 500-600watts on a stock battery or should I still change it(there not cheap as you know thats why I ask). And how do I find out the type of regulator I have?

I thought 117a was average or small by the way others talk about alts but I also dont understand the last part of your comment with the "1000w of a/b power..."
