When speakers blow

Would it be safe to run 85w from an amp to some speakers that are said to handle 45w rms? I need an amp to power 2 dual 4ohm 9kv.2's and 2 front speakers.

Thanks, but that would also limit the power to the subs as well right? I was hoping I wouldnt have to do that because there wont be much power going to them

He has to be, prolly running the others bridged.

Sounds kinda like he needs two amps.

What's the rating on the amp and the rating on the subs?

Its a 4 channel, rated at 125 rms per channel at 2 ohms, and 80 per channel at 4 ohms. There are the 2 subs and four speakers, I was thinking of running the rear speakers from the HU, and the fronts and the subs from the amp. If I wired the four front speakers into two channels at 8 ohms, I dont think it would really supply enough power to them.

Definitely not. If you must have rear-fill, definitely run it off your HU. I've read that giving them the equivalent power to your fronts is part of what screws your sound-stage up. I purchased a 4-ch but I'll probably end up powering some mid-bass off my HU. Gimme some specific part names. What impedance load are you attempting to power the subs at, exactly? You either need to go 4 or 1; I don't know what your amp does bridged or if it's 1 ohm stable..

I don't think you should do it...even with the gains all the way down...thats like a 40 watt difference. I would just recomend buying a amp just for the subs and then for all four speakers.

I dont have the amp yet, but I was going to buy a profile ap1040, becuase this is a budget project for someone else, and ive heard profiles are reliable amps, and good for the money. Anyone know of an amp that is 1 ohm capable that would fit this situation? That way I could run the fronts at 4 ohms and the subs into one channel at 1 ohm, that would work alot better. Say 125-150rms @1 ohm or something like that?

What speakers and what subs are you wanting to use?

2 ED 9kv.2 dual 4 ohm ers. The speakers are some fosgate coaxials, like 5 1/4 inchers or something. But now im considering just buying some better front components that will handle the 80 watts from This Amp. Any suggestions? This is kind of a budget deal by the way.

And btw, I appreciate all this help.
