When building a box in the trunk..

I'm going to be building a box in my trunk, and had a question. Since i am building it in the trunk it is going to be a really tight fit, and getting screws to some places will be hard. So how do i go about attaching the sides of the boxes to the bottom piece of mdf, since i can not attach the sides to the bottom piece before i stick it in?? If i dont use screws for the bottom pieces, should i just glue the crap outta it and use loads of silicone with some bracing in excess instead of screws?? (if bracing please suggest a good minimal bracing tool with little displacement)

what you should do is build the box in 2 maybe 3 pieces outside, then lay it inside your trunk and glue/screw em together, thats what i did with my box, be alot easier

's glove. my biggest problem was the trunk latch, not the part on the lid, but the hoop thats on the rear panel of the trunk. i was thinkin at first of just cuttin a hole in the box so i could slide it in. but my box is designed with the port in the middle, so i dont think it would of affected the preformance. on other boxes i wouldnt try it... another thought, hows ur back seat lookin? does it look like it might come out kinda easy? each car is different tho, just a thought.,...

the rough total of the box(havent got exact calculations yet) is around 8.5 cubes. rough height is 17.5 max exterior and length is about 37 inches which is why i can not really just slide it in.

so by putting it together ( a couple pieces) and then use wood and glue to finish it in the trunk, what exactly do you mean? if i screw the sides together outside the trunk, it wont fit going into the trunk. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif im still confused as to what to do. if worse comes to worse and i can not screw the side walls to the bottom piece of mdf, would lots of glue and some bracing be enough to hold it together?

get some little metal corner brackets. They look like little L's.

if you really cant get the box in with the sides on - then try this.

get a 2x4, and cut it on a 45 degree angle so its a triangle with 2 sides that are equal and one corner that is 90 degrees.

like so;

make a few of these. now apply glue to sides A and B, and stick a few of them on the INSIDE of the box on the sides that you cant screw down because of the location (you should be able to use this method on the inside no matter what side of the box its on, as long as its a 90 degree angle).

like so;

make sure you glue it down, then predrill the holes with a smaller drill bit and use realy coarse thread screws to hold the wood real nice. use as many of these as you think you need, they will double as box bracing as well. they will reduce the size of the box a little, but they will keep the box together.

L brackets on the inside would help too. but i think wood + wood glue + screws would be a little better.

Why don't you just put the sides down so that they screw in the bottom from the sides....if that made sense, well wait, here's a picture.

Build what you can outside the trunk and finish it inside...Just plan ahead to where you'll have access to the screws....I dont see the angle irons creating a good seal for the glue to bond unless you put them every couple inches...and those mdf trinagles will crack very easily...

the problem is for him, its so wide, that he cant fit a screwdriver in the side.

your best bet will prolly be a socket wrench with a drillbit in it, and some screws... if that makes sense.
