what does it smell like? i installed my comps today, and i heard some popping noises, and i turned off my headunit immediatly. then i smelled something funky, i couldnt put my finger on it, then it kinda smelled like burnt coffee beans or somethin like that, so anyone know what happened? my comps r crossed at 80hz, and the volume was at like 5-10

When you can smell the voice coils burning you are simply exceeding the thermal (power) limits of the speaker and literally roasting the glaze on the voice coil.

To avoid this either cross over your speakers at a higher frequency or turn down the gain on the amp.

once i reach that point to where it smells like french toast, i would rather go to the local diner and get some french toast rather than adjusting gains and crossovers.
