Whats wrong with my stereo?

This is really making me angry. For the past two days, my speakers have stopped playing music for short periods of time (2 seconds-6 seconds), the sub keeps playing. Its most common when I'm accelerating from a stop. I have done no adjustments to my headunit/speakers for a few months. It happens when the radio and when cds are playing. Anyone have any ideas? Its a pioneer 6400 headunit.

On what? the speaker? but its both front speakers, not just one.

yeah do that. but what i was saying that if ur car is runnung with the stereo playing and the speaker wire hits the metal it can cause the speaker ti short.

Isnt running new wire a pain? sounds like a big job. I went back to tried a few things, it now seems like it does it most often when a bass note hits (the sub plays) and more when the volume is high. i dont get it.

Thing is, if a speaker wire shorts to ground, many head units will 'shut down' their output - so, even if it is only one speaker, it is quite possible that it would cause all speakers, or all in one segment (i.e., all front) to shut down.

Hm... If it's only when the sub hits, I wonder if your voltage is dropping way low, causing the HU's amp to protect itself momentarily? Do your head lights dim *severely*?

it sounds like to me u need to upgrade ur power and ground wires going to the cd player, ur running on ur stock wires arent u?
