well i was saying that if you took the same model sub for example the type X. The 12" model will hit harder than the 10" with the reccomended setup.

this guy at work told me that 10ns sound good inside the car and that 12vs sound good out side the car. and 15s sound good 2-3 blocks away. is this true?

10s are not that popular because as the old saying goes, "there is no replacement for displacement". For a 10 to have the low end extension of a bigger sub, it will need to have greater linear excursion to make up for the lack of cone area.

1 10" given a good enclosure and amp, can indeed outperform a 12" (relatively average) any day.

yeah a killer 10 will outperform a lesser quality 12 but "apples to apples", same subs with boxes built to specs and power to specs the 10 is gonna have less displacement(given you know this prolly but should be stated). but if you just want killer bass using tens then yeah its very possible. theres a vid of a single 8 going nuts around here somewhere.

i was giving a generalization, not necessarily specifics. but yes i should've stated that as well.

10" subs cannot usually provide the extremely low extension that many people like (yes, frequency response is dependant of size to an extent). Besides that, I would imagine it's simply personal prefrence.

If you want to buy subs based on cone size alone, consider what the rest of the system is. I wouldn't even consider running an 18 when my front stage is 4x6's, nor would I run a 10" sub if my midbasses were 8's. Its all about blending, output and frequency response. Everything else is just generalizations by people who dont know better.

It amazes me how often people ask which size subs to buy, and nobody thinks to ask what the front stage consists of. Well blended systems are an endangered species it seems.

I see lots of 12, 15, 18. Won't 10 hit just as hard as a 12 inch?

10's are great and can get very loud for people with limited space. Just most people can fit bigger and like to go as big as they can.
