I just read this thread

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=63972

Along with countless others.

What is up with these people loading shit tons of deadener all over there car? Check out some of the videos in the thread....I mean the speaker taps on the face of bare metal, and then taps on the same metal with sound deadener and exlaims how big of a difference it makes.

WOW what a breakthrough...im sure wiping the metal down 2x its original mass in liquid nails and shit would have the same effect...mass loading is mass loading.

What I dont understand is people going crazy....putting 10x the ammount that is needed all OVER there car.....killing mileage..hurting resale...costing themselves money.

Please explain to me why applying 10,0000 layers of deadener to the same spot, along with applying it to vibration dead areas will have a substantial effect over 1-2 layers spaced in strategic locations, otherwise I will continue to believe this is all a sales ploy.

I have deadener in my car BTW.

i think you may have posted the wrong link

but to answer your question, the reason people do it is because when they dont fully understand what the deadener does they resort to that common mantra 'more is always better'

I would agree more is better. I mean c'mon, people with like 27 15" subs and 60000 batteries, for me 1 sub is enough. I think adding 1inch steel plate would be cheaper....

Thanks, linked fixed

First, explain to me how it would hurt resale? Ive sold about 6 cars and not once has someone ripped up the carpet, or taken off door panels to see whats under there....

Yes, most people that go overboard just go overboard not fully understanding what they are doing. But there are some people that just want to make sure to prevent from any road noise as possible. Ever ridden in a higher priced lexus, Benz, or Volvo? Its rather amazing how quiet they are once the doors are closed. I think for alot of SQ competitors, they are trying to prevent ANY and all noises.

Sound deadener doesn't block air born noises, or not very well.... You need to research.

Who ever said it hurt resale?

The majority of people put insane amounts of deadener bc they think it will give them a quiter ride. All it does is reduce the resonance in the generaly thin sheet metal of automobiles.

If you want a quiet ride, you need some MLV.
