What's the proper way to hook up these components to this amp?

6 component speakers, all (I think 4 ohm) Boston Acoustics. 2 4x6 2 way plates, the 746 model. 2 6.5's and 2 1" dome tweeters, the SL models.

The amp I'm hooking them up to is the Orion HCCA 150r. The specs of the amp are as follows:

50x2 @ 4 OHM

100x2 @ 2 OHM

200x2 @ 1 OHM

200x1 @ 4 OHM

400x1 @ 2 OHM

So what do I want to do here? Hook up three speakers to each channel in parallel? I get confused.

Also, the 6.5's and dome tweeters came with crossovers.

are you wiring a bus for sound? j/k

no, seriously that setup will probobly sound very unbalanced. I suggest you purchase a nicer, higher-quality component set, and maybe a set of coaxials for rear fill. It will be easier to set up, wire, and probobly sound a whole ton better.

I suggest you search on this forum. use the word "comp" or "component" or something along thoes lines. find a few you are interested in and then come back if and when you need any more help.

I would not have both a componet set and a coaxial front stage like that. You can do both but not the way you are planning.

An interesting concept may be to ditch the tweeters and highpass the 4x6s so they act as a midrange/tweeter. It may sound pretty decent.

The easiest choice is to ditch the 4x6s and just use the componet set

Yea, I'm a pretty big rookie at this stuff. I guess I have a poor choice of speakers here. I thought you simply find decent speakers and you can hook them all up together for decent sound.

Can I ask what makes them so unbalanced and unable to hook up all 6 of these together?

Fair enough. I just had a set of these same Boston 746 4x6's in my old car, used in the front with some decent at best 6x9's in the back, and I liked the sound of the 4x6's. Take into consideration I am by no means a professional, I am a jimmy rigging kid who barely knows what he's doing (hence why I'm here in the first place), so I do not have the trained ear that most on here likely have.

So I thought adding them in with this component set wouldn't be a bad idea. So if I move on with this project, back to my original question, what is the proper way to hook these up if I want to use this amp?

I appologize. I missunderstood your post OP. I get it now. I thought the 6.5's were coaxials and you were adding tweeters for the fun of it. I also assumed you were going to put all of these up front.

Sorry.

I would use the amp to power the components only, in 4 ohms. send power from the amp to the crossover and then to the corresponding speakers. then I think I would use a high-pass crossover (aka bassblockers) to the 4x6 plates and run them off the HU power. probobly in the rear of the vehicle.

Old school Orion amp, stable to .5 ohm, nice. Seems a waste to only give it a 4 ohm load. You'll want to hook the 6.5" component speakers up to the "rear" channels on that amp, and the 4x6 speakers to the "front" channels. This is because the rear channels have more power, because they were meant to power a subwoofer. But in your configuration, you'll want to have more power to the front component speakers. You'll be installing the 6.5" components in the front of the vehicle, the 4x6's in the back.

Ok cool. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. It's hard to comprehend all aspects of this car audio hobbie and have it stick when I only dabble a very little bit here and there.

As far as the old school Orion, I really fell in love with the 99-00 series of Orion amps and collected a few of them over the years off of eBay because I knew they wouldn't be available for much longer. I've heard all modern day amps they make aren't near the quality of these old bad boys.
