Whats the point of a frame and how you know if you need one?

If your building a 6 cu ft box for a high powr 18", then you need to do alot of bracing and build a very stiff box free of reasonace or it will vibrate and sound like ***. Or blow seems and come apart, wasting power and produce farting sounds.

Read some threads on building sub boxes and look at lots of pics on how people brace and reinforce thier sub boxes.

All seams should be braced and sealed and more bracing around the drivers and cross brace all large sections of wood.

ive seen build pics on here with 2x4's inside from middle of all sides to a middle point where they all bolt together to keep the box sides from flexing. probably would need to do it while building the box, not sure how youd add it later unless you can take it apart

not trying to post jack at all but i didnt wanna start a whole new thread asking the exact same question so do you think i need sturdy bracing for the setup in my sig? it has a couple triangle corner braces on all sides.

Here is what I believe to be a good bracing approach to start with. Note that the magnet system is braced two ways. And the amount of bracing? I've seen advice that you should not have any wall surface larger than 4" unbraced.

Bracing on the magnet? Nothing should touch the magnet. The magnet is supported only by the spider and bolted into the face of the cabinet.

If your bracing every 4" then you should have choosen a thicker wall material. If you use 1" MDF then you can have much larger spaces than that without bracing, you just need to brace the large spaces, the mounting face and seams.

You can also glue two pieces of MDF together to make the walls 1 1/2" - 2" of MDF and then you wouldn't need much bracing.
