What's the deal with wrapping the remote wire with a small ground wire?

you would connect the ground wire to a ground, so any part of the chassis that is connected to the - pole of your battery

btw, if your signal wires dont cross your + cable, there shall be no noise, except if your HU is some stank-ass garbage (read sony, jvc etc.)
