Whats the deal with newer HU's!!?

My main gripe is Alpine is their decision to not put optical out on 98% of their decks.

Maybe because only .0001% of potential customers actually want to use that feature.

The optical out is to connect to processors such as the h701 etc.

Everything except for a few manufacturers are crap. Nobody has made a decent head unit in about 5 years. Just like amps. Orion PPI And Phoenix gold all were top of the heap until they were bought by huge companies and are now crap for the most part. Too many useless buttons and crap, and not enough quality and Sound

^^^^^ couldn't agree more. For headunits, I go with Alpine, Eclipse or Premier. That's it. Those three seem to be the main ones with their isht together.

Well considering they have the PXA-H701 and they know many are using it in 4 way mode. I'm sure Alpine has someone working for them that knows competitors use this processor for non 5.1 systems.

PG is far from top notch in anyhing, I owned a Xenon, and a Tantrum. Compared to the old stuff like MS2125 and other M series as well as ZX series and titaniums, the new ones are crap. They dont demand as much money for them either

People often say this, and havent even owned an old school amp. I for one Own an m44, and have ran the xenon line, and their was no audible difference period. The xenons had a bad run the first time around, but that problem was fixed many years ago. One of pgs most overbuilt amps period. I dont know what amp you were looking at, but the xenons were not expensive. If anything the titaniums were way more expensive amps..
