Playing your music however you want is how to properly break in your subs. You can use test tones, but there's no audible difference between using the subs however often you want for a week and a half, and playing test tones for an hour.

This has been gone over soooooo many times its probably one of the most asked questions... They do not need any break in, take it easy on them for a couple days maybe to let them loosen up but nothing special...

run square waves through them o_O jk
"break in" is another term for stretch the surround, and the suspension, but really IMO is more superstition than anything.
Not with the hdc3's its not lol. Have you ever run them? Ive installed many in friends cars and one of them did have mechanical sound due to improper break in. Just be carefull on the volume, thats all thats required and set your subsonic filter correctly and youll be fine.

wait until it's been asleep for about an hour and use a rubber band to shoot a piece of ceramic at the window.....

i got tones off this site somewhere, look for them. if you have a house amp that can handle the imp. then start with a higher tone like 60hz and step your way down slowly to sub-sonic. a theory behind break-in is to have the surround and spider loosen up gradually and evenly, so that the weakest point doesn't just move first, and then move more, leaving the stiffer parts to resist movement, which will create uneven areas of movement, which will also get worked more than the stiffer parts.... basically misalignment and premature failure still don't know how much i believe in it, but will do it when i can

No such thing yes the spiders will get loose over time during regular beating no need to sit around for 3 weeks BSing around thinking its gonna save ur sub. Subs will fail or not fail its that simple. I need to break in my new tv 10mins today 20 tomorrow and sooo on LOL full of crap. Just got my ps3 yeaterday I will be sure to break in correctly as well as the hdmi cable cause I want it to last a long time LOL. God I can go on and on..

My old wmd2 12" got hit with 2.5k right out the box... My DD 2510 got hit with 1300+ right from the box never had an issue. My Skars will get 2200+ right out the box. I will cross my fingers cause I will never ever ever break in a sub and I am willing to bet I will never have an issue.

Over 8 subs used so far never had a sub failure other then my DD which i dropped below tuning and the spiders seperated which was my fault not cause I did not break it in. Lets all email mythbusters and see if they can put this BS myth to rest... Got a friend who hit his 2 DDz 15's with over 30k right from the box and they did not fail. HMM I am seeing a pattern here

As far as AQ saying you need to break them in is BS. They are the ones that are in part to blame for such a stupid myth. Their subs failed due to the crap azz resin they use on the spiders and needed to blame the customer so they wouldnt have to warranty it. Thats a fact!!!!
