Whats the best tuner ?

Actually, a lot of aftermarket head units have horrible tuner sections...it's just not that big of a priority for most people after an upgrade.

If you're having weak signal problems, what are you using for an antenna? If it's a "in-window" one, installing a real external antenna will be a good step...

Something with built in HD or an aftermarket HD receiver might work best. Otherwise satellite receivers sometimes get good reception. I've never really had problems with aftermarket head units getting bad reception. My alpine CDA-9883 got great reception all the time and I live at least 30 miles from Minneapolis where the signals are broadcast. If you want it I'll sell it to you.

My head units an Alpine CDA-9857 My antenna is the factory installed antenna on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma (external not a windshield) I do not want XM/Siruis tried it didn't like it.

Ditto on XM/Sirius...not only does it cut out going under bridges, etc...in my area (NH) we have a lot of roads surrounded by A LOT of trees and those interfere with satellite radio too! So, I'll take the 'ol FM band anytime. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I got bullshit reception with my cda-9825. Not a huge deal since I would listen my my ipod the majority of the time. No AM reception whatsoever....
Has A LOT to do with the vehicle, especially AM reception. Had the same 9887 HU in my '99 Silverado and AM reception was shit...same 9887 HU in my '08 Silverado and AM reception is P-E-R-F-E-C-T. So, I think it has more to do with the vehicle than the HU. IMHO. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Has more to do with the antenna than the vehicle. Get one of those giant antennas that I think is used for like CB or Hamm radio or whatever, you know the ones that are like 10 feet tall, it'll give any vehicle perfect reception.

x2 Pioneer in the Ford got great reception. Put it in the Honda and it blows.

The reception sucks in my jimmy but it's great in my caprice. This is with both alpines and pioneers I've owned and have switched between the 2 vehicles. I'm getting a lot of interference when the truck is running. When the truck is off, no problems. I'm thinking about running a new antenna and wire, but I'm way too lazy. I think a lot of the reception issues have to do with poor placement of the antenna on the vehicle and the path of the antenna wire.

my Honda has had perfect reception on every unit that's gone in it and the antenna is sh*t. Won't even go all the way up or down.
