My statement that resistance creates heat? I forgot how the laws of Physics don't apply to car audio in Oklahoma:) I'm not saying it will be a devastating difference, but it will be different.

It simply doesnt work like that in this case due to the significantly less power running through the coil...it wouldnt be hotter at all or people wouldnt wire higher impedences if they dont want to overpower their subs (dont want to fry the coil)...

 
Go run 1000W through a sub @ 1Ohm. Run it through again @ 4Ohm. Measure the temperatures.
i certainly dont know everything and this is just an educated guess on my part but technically the subs are telling the amp what ohm the amp should run at. i think to the sub wattage is wattage no matter what ohm load its wired at.

impedance for a subwoofer is not the same as "resistance." It is more of the relationship of reactance and resistance together.

If you use a an amp that runs 1000 w at 1ohm and do .5 it will maybe do 1500 watts with more distortion and will cause MORE heat in the amp than it would with 2 ohms. If you go at 2 ohms you might get 800 watts or so. The amp will run cooler plus play cleaner music. I think you should do a little more research there buddy. By the way I don't do caraudio in oklahoma, instead I do high end home theaters plus allot more than you can wrap your head around

That doesnt mean much when you say that a sub wired at 2 ohms will get hotter than one wired at .5 ohm...

I agree that more resistance creates more heat, but it does not come into play when you are talking about speakers.
