A new 12" type r is over $200 bucks and you can get alot of subs that are waaaay better for cheaper lol ill put a soundqubed HDS310 or a sundown SA10 against a type r and i bet itll **** on it lol

Everyone on the forum. Type r is an okay sub for 150 on amazon, cheaper on craigslist however for loudness, plenty of subs can sh*t on them. All the competitons run sundown, dc, fi, incriminator, soundqubed, digital designs. Alpine is no where near as loud as a sundown sa 12. Hell in a direct swap my c2 audio threatcon completely kicked its *ss in loudness and sound quality and the sundown sa is a lot louder than a c2 threatcon.

Lol yea not saying the Type r isnt a good sub hell i had a pair on a hifonics amp back in the day but now its on to the big boy subs

Cheaper than type R in price but WAAAAY more balls than a type R can dream of. Made in USA 3 year warranty, cant beat that son! You only got today left though. Either way, you cannot put it in a crappy cheap box you buy from ebay/amazon. You need to either build your own box or have a proper builder build them for you. That goes for any sub you get. The box is the key ingredient on getting you loud along with quality power(amp and electrical upgrades).

Rms does not mean loud or strength. You look at the actual build quality. A sundown SA 12 only rated for 600 watts but will get way louder due to stronger motor, and people can run 1200 watts on them daily no problem. You got to get out of that noob mentality bro. A type R looks like a dwarf compared to a fu 12 or Sundown SA 12 IRL.. You can put 1200 watts clean on a sundown and it would be fine. While a type R will blow pretty easy on that power.

Here's an SA 12 in action. You wont even get close to that with a single type R




I highly suggest you go to some local competitions and hear some real setups.

I agree with you im still learning on the whole whole sub thing i need to stop worrying about the brand, im stuck on alpine because thats all i ever had

Ypur gonna need a stout electrical to run that 4500.1 big 3, HO alt, a couple batts, and good quality 1/0 or 2/0 power and grounds just make sure your electrical is up to par before turning that amp on
