what you pro's think?

hm, idk. ive never heard of the brands of that stuff. im dead set on the kenwood hu though so far. i love the way it looks, and like the input in the front. and even thought you say you can get that amp cheaper, that thing is out of my price range. i was hoping to do it for around 5-600 hundred after i really started lookin at stuff.

I've been looking at selling my kicker zx750.1 - might be within your price range there. I'm not looking to get a whole lot out of it.

Other options for it... Well, I've always liked the AQ amps ^^

well for a grand i would seggest a

RD audio alpha and a RD audio 1750.. great combination

also DD 3500 series

dc sound lab level 4 xl(never heard them but im going to get one very soon)

mmats dreadnaut

are some of my favorites..

you can also find the sundown audio 1500 and soundstrea tra 2000D for under 450. the 3500 is around 375-380 a pop you have to email DC for pricing and matts dealer for pricing but they shouldn't be more than about 400-450...

Yea fi subs are nice, I thought ur budget was $1000 for evrything. You'll need 1000 watts for your sub, that's why I recommended the arc audio amp. Arc's a great brand even though you've never heard of it. And if it's a kenwood hu that you want, that's great they make some awesome hu's. Just remember that for $1000 u can build a kickass system, and the less you have to spend, the harder it's gonna be to build a quality system.

well, im wanting to put a good system together, just to start out with. its goin in a 2000 ford explorer. i dont wanna spend a s*** load of money, but wanting something strong. ive been lookin and reading quite a bit and have read pretty good stuff about pioneer, alpine. one of my buddies is really good at all this, and he said 1 12in type-r 2ohm, hifonics brutus bxi608 amp and a custom box he can build me would be about perfect. he suggested kenwood or alpine for the hu, and liked the KDC-338 the best since i need iPod hookup. tell me what you guys think of this, and what you might suggest instead. thanks!
Your "friend" was doing so well until the head units. Kenwood makes decent HU's, but for the most part, the good quality lies in Alpine, with Pioneer in close second (only problem with Pioneer is the micro-resistor that's attached to their pre-outs that's really touchy... if the resistor blows, you get engine whine and it's just bobo.)

There are a few really high-end brands... but, for $220, you can get a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB. I have this unit, and it rox0rz my sockz. For $300, you can either pick up an Alpine 9887 [A lot of members use this unit] or a Pioneer DEH-800MP, which is the equivalent.

But a single or double 12" Type AARRRGGHH should be good enough. This would focus more on shear loudness over sound quality, though I hear the Type AAARRGGHHHS don't sound too bad if the enclosure is built properly and the signal isn't clipped.

Not sure of the price on the Type AAARGGGH's, but some other options are Fi SSD, I believe some lower DD lines are really good, IDQ's are supposed to be good, and are decently cheap... but if you want to focus more on quality, people have suggested the Fi Q, IDMAX (IDQ's are supposed to be good, too), or the Alpine Type X (Although, I hear they aren't that loud.)

The Fi Q 12" sells for $290 with the BP Option [allows more power handling, IIRC], the IDMAX sells for 400, while the Type X sells for 400, these are all new. You could buy a used one for a lot cheaper.

thanks for the info Josh, its just hard sometimes to really trust some people online, (NOT saying your not trust worthy!)

thanks for the info ID, i like that first Pioneer you listed, but everywhere ive looked it was discontinued and wasn't on the Pioneer website anymore as well. and couldnt find the 800MP anywhere. and the 9887 is out of my price range. so.

on the subs, im pretty sure i wanna stick with the FI, and my buddy originally said the Q, but price and what not led me to the SSD. i would like to have about a grand in my system, but idk if thats managable, which is why i said 5-600 would be better.

alright guys:

FI Q sub, dual 2, BP power.

Alpine CDA-9884 hu- i know i can search through my music from the hu, but can i still do it straight from the iPod??

sweet amp for around 200. let me know what you think...

GOD ive changed my mind 200 times already. lol. i need to lock this in for xmas list! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
