What would you do on this budget?

Putting together a system for a Porsche Cayman. Budget $1000-$1200 total.

Its a small car and we want quality first, especially bass (tight not booming).

The following constraints:

3-way components in the front

Sealed 10" sub in the back (small volume)

Exclusively class-d amps for comps and sub

Ideally the sub would be low watt, under 500-600w.

What would you buy? What would be your dream setup like this?

Boston G5 10" or RE SE will be perfect for your 10" 600 watt needs

As far as amps go pick an choose what you like, there is a lot of veriaty

you can find some good 3 way JL Audio XR's for a pretty good price.

I agree, you need to be a little more flexible on your budget if you want what you listed!!!!

x2. 3-way is pretty expensive. Not to mention, if you decide 3-way passive, it's kind of whack. But, 3-way active you need 6 channels, and that can prove costly.

As for subs, another sub to think about is an IDQ, Fi Q. The Fi Q is rated at 1K, but you can run at 600.

EDIT:: That's actually pretty good. I'd pick a new amp. IMO, you can get a better deal. But if you're looking for small foot prints, that's a good way to go.

Hey guys thanks for the advice so far.

I love my Cayman very much, I've had it for over a year and its an amazing car, one of the best handling cars out there.

I know its not a huge budget but audio is not that big of a priority in this car, its just a nice to have.

Small footprint is a big deal since there is no space in this car. Light weight is also important. Luckily I will be taking out more speakers than I am putting in!

I had kind of budgeted like this:

~$400 for Focal VR3 passive comps (or similar)

~$500 for amps

~$300 for sub

I could even get away with a single 5ch bridged and save a little money...

Sorry I can't go active on my budget and because of the layout of the speakers in the car I want to stick with a 3 way setup. Unless the technology has changed alot ( I recently read about it, but haven't heard about it in productiuon yet) they don't make full class d high pass amplifiers but they do use d class topology in some . but they do make class g and t. but a/b is where its at.

ya no kiding..i would NEVER pay 420 for a 700 watt amp..honestly

u can get a 500 or a 1000 watt hifonics for wayy cheaper than that and it will get the job done and provide him with plently of bass..

Class D amps are much smaller and do come full range but they tend to be a bit more expensive. 3 way fronts with an additional sub can be tricky to tune, especially active with time alignment. The alpine PDX and JL audio HD series amps are class D (of a sort) and have a small footprint for the power. Both of these are also stackable (within the same brand). As for subs, you would be amazed at how much bass you can get out of a good 10" sub or two in the right box.

he did say he wanted quality bass right? not like someones throwing up all in his car, kicker is loud but the quality isnt good enough for what he wants.

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you checked go see what other Cayman owners are installing in their cars and how they're configuring the systems? I know there are shops that specialize in Porsche installs. Perhaps you could contact those folks see what they suggest. Here, you're casting a wide net, when you should be using a spear. Good luck.
