What would you do on this budget?

Basically what I am doing is based on a few Cayman success stories //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am also going to install some iPod connectivity via a Dension gateway, and an Alpine pxe-h650. Probably cost another $1000 including a new ipod //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I really appreciate the help, I am leaning towards this setup based on some recommendations

Rainbow SLC365 3-way Components

Alpine PDX 2.150

IDQ10v3 Subwoofer

Alpine PDX 1.600

I think it should sound good and not break the bank. I wish I could get it down to 1 amp though...

This will do fine right here.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I just went with Kicker because they make everything he needs. If I were installing a system in a nice car like a Porsche, I wouldnt use cheap stuff and part it together from all different companies.

Word. In a Porsche, I'd want everything the same brand, or completely debadged.

Oh, and I can't believe no one has said this yet:

"What would you do on this budget?"

Get a bigger one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

- installation will make or break the outcome.

- nothing wrong with doing a passive 3way system and the Focal setup is a great start.

- there are lots of options on subwoofers, the trick is to get the knowing performer for you application.

- Eclipse has the oldest versions of class D ICEpower amps on the market today. They are very small and more than ample power. They would be ideal in this application. If I can find a Eclipse XA5000 amplifier, that would be my personal choice. I have used this amp about 20 times and have found it to be a perfect match of power. This amp is ideally suited to your application.

US guys, he is in Canada so his options for equipment are that much more difficult and the pricing out of the US market by the time it arrives in Canada can add almost 40% to the prices, keep that in mind.

The system looks very good. You could get down to one amp, if you chose a more sensitive sub. FWIW, I tested a number of subs, including the IDQ, and chose a Blaupunkt PCW-series driver. It's very sensitive - more than its specs indicate - and it doesn't need a lot of power at all. It's also very light, if weight is important to you; it was to me. Most importantly, I thought it sounded best - articulated, no overhang, terrific definition. It is also ridiculously inexpensive:

There are other (sub) drivers with relatively high sensitivity that would allow you to run a single PDX amp. Shoot me a PM if I can help.

Thanks for being understanding //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Its going to be a lot of hassle for me to get this stuff and I can't really demo it ahead of time... and the cost of shipping and handling and the currency exchange will be brutal!

instead of flaming me how bout you educate me? I am very old school so what did I miss that made you say that? I really do learn from my mistakes ya know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

"Unless the technology has changed alot ( I recently read about it, but haven't heard about it in productiuon yet) they don't make full class d high pass amplifiers but they do use d class topology in some . but they do make class g and t. but a/b is where its at."

Class AB amplifiers have been around in the car audio area for longer than I have (22 years and counting). They are indeed tried and true. That said though, technology has progressed and it has progressed to the point that full range class D amplification has been available for years now.

Eclipse was first to market with it under the ICEpower class D chassis design. This is now at least 4 years old for Eclipse, 3 years for Alpine PDX, 3 for Pioneer Premiere and others are now in production as well. Do a search on ICEpower and see the development of the circuit by Eclipse and B&O from years back.
