what was the point of c cell batteries?

does anyone even use c cell batteries anymore? c cell batteries just seem like a completely useless size to me, why not use a single d or two AA instead of the c cell size

this musing came about because i have a wall clock that needs a new battery so i turned it around and it is a c cell...wtf!

and my bathroom scale uses a 9v...wtf!! 9v batteries are like 10x the price of all the other sizes

why does a scale need a 9v, it only pops up a small lcd display for a few seconds total per year

i am pretty sure a single AA could handle that job

or maybe use use the force from a persons weight stepping on it to generate a little energy to power the lcd for a second

yeah but don't 9v batteries last ridiculously long?

whenever i come across something that uses 9v batteries it seems like it's something that either doesn't get used often, or if it does get used often, it's for a short ammount of time, like seconds.

maybe it's designed for short uses as opposed to AA?

I have a maglite that uses C's.

Also, lots of radios and portabe tv's take C's. They sell like crazy when people are preparing for hurricanes because people want to have tv/radio.
