If using 0 gauge go with a 300amp...if using a smaller gauge check to see what the fuse rating for the WIRE is and use that

none..... the factory doesnt fuse it for the most part...

bt if you want to be overly cautios then yes a 300 will owrk fine.

The factory doesn't fuse for the most part? Come again? Every car I've ever looked under the hood has that wire fused through the fuse block.

Judging by the numerous hack wire jobs posted on this site I think $15 for an inline fuse is a good idea for most on here since they don't seem to do "factory" type installs. LOL

Use a 300a for 0 gauge as you don't need an arc welder under your hood.

If he uses the highest available fuse rating, it will do absolutely nothing. The fuse wont stop the wire from getting to much current, and it will sit there and watch the wire, and possibly the car, burn to the ground.
