i have a soundstream spl160 laying around and i figured id build a ported enclosure for it. the manual lists 2 different sizes: 1 is 3.0 cu-ft @27 hz (2- 4"x 22" ports) 2 is 4 cu-ft@32hz (3- 4"x 16" ports)

i really have two questions. they dont make mention of the ports being round or square so i thought i might build a slot port box. will this work just as well?

the other question is which of the two sizes do i use? i would like the best sq possible from it. i figure a ported 15 will give some good bump anyway. i drive an 87 4runner its a relatively small suv. i will be feeding the sub 800rms @2ohms.

40-85l is about the size range most high powered 12" woofers will want for a box. You should use manufacturer suggested box specs unless someone...

Try the sealed then. If you feel you're lacking low end extension you might try to build a ported box to give you a little more output down low.
