drilling the hole in my clutch plate(since dont have one) but ran into a problem...the biggest drill bit i have is 1/4!

what size bit should i be using(obviously one that makes a hole big enough for my 4 guage wire, but do they make them that big for a normal drill?)

**** i keep running into more and more questions and problems--but i am **** determined to do this myself and succeed!

i spent all day trying to find where the clutch plate on the exterior of the firewall, finally found it, then couldn't find a drill bit big enough for my wire--SHJT

a standard size bit should work fine...do you have the terminals on the end already or something? Can't imagine having a set of drill bits that wouldn't at least have a bit sized to make about a 4 gauge hole.

not 80. got to lowes. i just saw them. those are designed to cut through thin metal, like conduits and stuff.

other wise, go to the hardware store with a bit of your 4ga in your hand and compare it to the drill bits. shouldn't be more than a couple of bucks for a bit.

What kind of drill do you have that won't fit certain bits?

alright...i'll have a unibit tomorrow, free, now HOW big should the hole be(can i make it 1/2 inch for 1 wire, or should i try and make it as tight as possible to the wire?), and where do you find grommets??? i've looked in home depot, autozone, murray's, ACO, and lowe's...all i've come up with is 3/4 inches

how thick is the firewall anyway?

since you are working hard to do your install yourself for the first time,, and have so many questions... you should keep it in one thread.. Those of us following your install will most likely be able to answer any question you have. And in one thread,, you will get all your answers in one place.
