what size alt will i need?

well if you know about my situation with my car you know im tryin to sell it, however it doesnt look good as no one has called about my ad. i might just end up keepin it and gettin a paint job. anyways if i end up keeping it i want my explorer to be the loudest around here. so far i have 2 sx 15's powered off a viper 2500.1 and i think another 2 15's sx's and another viper 2500.1 just might be in the mix for what i want. i got 2 questions.

1) what size alt would be good enough for this? so far the biggest ive found for my expy is like 250 i believe. would that be enough?

2) this isnt about the alt but do you think the xxx comps could keep up with 4 ported sx 15's?

edit: and please none of this "thats overkill you dont need that much bass unless your competeing". i know its overkill, and im not competeing, but i like spending money haha and i like music so whatever makes me deaf faster im down for lol

Sure, but you could try to find smaller pulleys to get that amperage out at lower rpms.

Also, you may want to look into another set of RE comps and/or a stronger amp.

lol thanks. i said im not competing but i mean i would like to tune and all that junk and get metered every so often and stuff like that. i guess you could say ill be a part time competitior as in i wont really follow it too much but if there is a comp i MIGHT give it a shot lol. either way yes im definatly thinking of turning the expy into a 2 seater if thats what its gonne take. btw dbfan, do you remember who was the guy who was running 4 15" sx's in his car? i remember reading about him on one of the forums but i cant find the thread anymore. i would like to talk to him and see what hes done. if i remember right hes also in an expy so well see.

as for the speakers. they are nice but they do start to distort with too much power. teampsi from RE said it was because the tweets are xovered at 2.5khz which lets them run nicely with lower power, so im thinking that i would like to give the xxx comps a shot as ive READ that they are much louder than the re re's.

Hmmm...not in an expy, but a Durango. Johnny over on Termpro has 4 15 SX's in a wall with 2 Orion 2500Ds.

Well, i would see if you can get someone to fabricate a bracket and do a dual alternator setup. Keep the stock one to run the car, and an amp for you components. THEN, use the 250 (or even a 300 if you can) for the 2 Viper 2500.1's, i'd at least one maybe two yellow tops for the viper's as well. That's honestly my suggestion...you almost need it to properly handle it. Peace
