What part of the sub smells if it is burning...

SD said that or ID said that?
Image Dynamics. Don't know if it was "company endorsed", but one of the employees (in the technical side of the company) was on the forums telling people not to run a class D amp on the 'Max or it will fry them. He said to only run Class A/B.

ID has their "own ideas" about certain things.

Ah, well, the only reason why I will spread the word about the break in is because it seems logical to me. Certain products behave differently than others, and the problems that running glue could cause easily match the symptoms and problems a few people had.

That class a/b bullshit is just ignorant though.

IIRC, he was talking about class d amps having DC current interference. They had claimed to find DC current from Class D amps at the speaker, instead of AC and that Class AB amps didn't do that. WAY more in depth than I'd ever get.

Well I'm sure that if they did go that in depth with it that they were over exaggurating a bit when they said don't use a cladd D on it. If that was the case, I am sure Adire would have a few tech sheets on it or it would be well known.

FYI

I say Adire would have them because Dan loves writing his tech articles :p

As long as he isn't playing 0db sine waves at 150% of the sub's rated RMS power, I can not possibly fathom how it would pose a problem. Music is so dynamic and transient, and has such a low duty cycle, that it's not like the sub is going to be pushed to it's absolute limits constantly.

And if the chemical properties of the adhesive being used react adversly the first couple of time they are exposed to any type of extended heat?

No.....I can't remember if it was over on carsound or elitecaraudio (believe he's said it on both in the past). IIRC the "main" thread about it was on carsound, where he promptly got flamed to hell and subsequently the thread was deleted.
