bl power handling as posted by scott
Fi Car Audio said:As for power handling... this one gets interesting. I have rated them at 1000W RMS for the standard version. Now exactly how much will each option add to the thermal capacity of the sub? Well, I dont know. Each application is different and you can quickly see that adding the full cooling to a high powered SPL application where the sub moves minimally (burped on tuning) vs the input power, it wont add much or any long term thermal capacity. But adding it to a lower tuned daily music system where the subs are constantly moving and you have more excursion vs input power, you will see very solid gains.
Will the BL handle XXXX (insert your specific power # here)? I dont know. I can give you good guidelines to follow, but I cant tell you everything. People like to push the limits, and what is loud when you first install it gets less loud over time as you become used to it. For many this equates to turning it up more... and often beyond the limits of the amp, sub, and general system. Best rule of thumb... if it starts to smell, turn it down or off and let it cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The sub will let you know if its getting stressed (provided you can smell it above whatever else might be going on inside your vehicle at the time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )
Simply use common sense and as more and more of the subs get out, people will see just how far they can push my "cautious" ratings.
If you are looking to use the sub for a daily purpose, I would think about the pole chamfer as the first option to do. It will relieve pressure under the dustcap and get things flowing better for minimal cost. After that, its somewhat of a tossup between the full cooling or flatwind. Both add thermal power handling... and to similar levels in some applications. If I were wanting to use 1500W+ Id probably get both. Anything under that and you can pretty much take your pick... Also, please reserve the BTL leadwire for predominantly SPL applications. The leadwire handles very higher power/current, but it also leads to noise in some applications as well as wear on the top spider if used for high excursion. Is this an issue for SPL or some louder daily drivers? Not at all... but if this isnt your application, dont get it. The standard stuff is as large as most use on their super uber SPL monsters... and they dont have issue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
