What laptop to get?

I've decided that i need a new laptop. Although i probably still wont get one for quite some time because i have higher priorities, namely buying a place to live and possibly rent out.

I want to start looking now though. I'm not sure where the current crop of laptops are at in relation to the product cycle but i'll be looking to get one when new processor technology comes out (although i may end up getting one before).

I will be primarly using this as a desktop and it'll be plugged in 99% of the time i use it. I'd like a decent graphics card. Enough to play Starcraft two (i still play the origonal, w00t), a big screen, and plenty of ram. HDD space is not a prime concern because i have externals. Although i would like a decently fast one to help with access times.

Connections are a concern. DVI out would be fantastic if they make laptops with that. As well as plenty of USB ports.

The Screen will probably make or break the deal, but power is a big thing to me.

Anyway i would like to spend ~2000 or less. What manufacturers should i look at buying from?

I've seen some higher end laptops from hp that have a HDMI output, I haven't seen any yet that have a DVI interface.

i guess i could just get a nice big LCD or Plasma TV and use that as a second monitor. good thinking.

You can easily find a HDMI to DVI converter if you really need DVI.

But there are a few problems. One, i dont know if i can forgive sony for the PS3 yet. And Two, they make you get the dual HDD's if you want to get the good screen.

That chafes me.

found my current laptop on there well over a year ago, and configured at dell it was 2400$ before taxes, I ended up getting it for 1400$ shipped through those websites with coupon codes and stuff, and its still a pretty current laptop in terms of specs.

Just looked at newegg, and they are different sockets.

T7xxx is socket P

and T5xxx is socket M

also the 7s are a little better in general so it seems.
