Who says a 15 can't be as responsive or even more responsive than a ten inch.

this is why arguements get started on this forum... the question was not "is there a 15 that is just as responsive as another 10" because yes there are 18's of some brands that have quicker response than some 10's...

truth though is that in any given line of subs (same brand/series) the smaller sub is most likely going to have quicker response than the larger sub, largely due to cone mass, and partially because of the added pressure of the air infront of the cone, though this problem is more prevailant in ported enclosures... so there will probably be a bigger difference in response speed in a ported than in a sealed.

that said, the enclosure is going to be VERY influencial to the responce of any sub

with the music you like i would go with 10's in a slightly undersized box, by slightly undersized i mean around .1 or .2 cubes smaller than recomended sealed, or if it gives you a min/max then go with the minimum but keep power ratings in mind too... this will give you a little more emphasis on the upper bass which is what most of your music is...

as far as how many you should get... thats up to you and how loud you want it

there was a thread in here that explained why dif sized subs respond the same i cant find it .. i searched just now

it has somethign to do with ... if the song is playign at 40htz that means the woofer is. if the woofer moved slower it wouldnt be playing 40htz and hwould mess up the song 40 cylces per second is 40 cylces per second

true they have more mass to move, but it still moves at 40 cycles per second

something like that .. if someone smarter chimes in they might know where the thread is or how to exlain it better/more in depth

i've heard this arguement too... while part of it is true, whats assumed here is that if you put a 40 hz signal into the sub it is going to play that signal exactly as it is put in... not all subs do... if that(^^^) was all there is to it then there would be no reason to buy one sub over the other other than for volume... and i think we all know that's not the case...

now that i think about it, the argument you are refering to is about woofer speed.. not transient response, that is... it is about the speed of the cone itself, not the speed that the woofer changes the signal... when a signal changes from 40 to 45 htz, that is a change in current... a sub is an inductor and thus resists changes in current.

i used to listen to heavy metal all the time when i had my 15"'s and it sounded perfect. a 15 will give you a pretty heavy sound. if u run 1 or 2 run them in a sealed box

yeah i take back what i said about smaller subs having quicker responce somewhat but it does effect the sound in some installations

squeek's here, what is the difference in respone of a smaller vs larger sub?

ive liked 15's for metal because when you get a steady heavy bass guitar part (breakdowns) it just sounds so perfect and heavy, like you're listening live. ive always thought 18's would just make it sloppy, but never heard 18's playing metal in person.

but if you're going for a quick double-bass response go with 10's
