OK first what I'm running then what the problem is
I have pioneer 1730 components in my door and tweets on the dash. Sundown sa275s in the dash. The sa and door pioneers are run active off a precision power p900.4 amp. Sa's on CH 1 and 2 and 1730s on 3 and 4. My tweets are run off a precision power i1000.4 amp on CH 1 and 2. I am running a jbl gt5-12 that was in a 1.25 cuft box and replaced it into a 1 cuft box (1.25 box was starting to leak and disintegrate). I have the sub run off the i1000.4 with CH 3 and 4 bridged giving 500 watts. So to reiterate the i1000.4 has CH 1 and 2 running the tweets and 3 and 4 bridged to the jbl.
So now my problem. In the 1.25 box I had good bass...good but still not what I wanted. On music such as bassnecter, skrillex, techno, some rap the box would get down and you could hear and feel the bass. So I scraped the box due to it being old and junk into a prefab ( I know!! I know) 1 cuft box. By dropping the cuft it has made the bass less noticeable and the "feel" is not there. Also seems to made it more punchy higher up in the freqs almost midbass area. The gain with the 1.25 was about 2/3 up and with the 1 I maxed the gain and it still doesn't compare to the 1.25.
So my question. One ....is the i1000.4 not up to the task of pushing this jbl? I was contemplated making a box at 1.5 cuft in which it should dig even lower....or is that to big? Is it the sub? I've read praise reviews of how great this sub is and it is but maybe I just want more out of it than the reviews...? So what is my best bet...build a bigger (1.4, 1.5 cuft box,) , get a more powerful amp or do I need a better sub? I'm at a loss on which direction is needed. Just in case anyone asks this is in a 15 Silverado and right behind the center console. Space is very limited and a ported would need to be bigger than I can give. My music taste is from ffdp, country, techno, top 40...pretty Mich any and everything. Thoughts
