What is the difference between 12" subs and 15" subs?

so why u still posting, nothin helpfull for this kid
you need to have your posting privelege revoked. you have not only posted nothing useful yourself, but have posted completely misguided info. you are a noob and need to read up a little before giving any advice.

because the topic is retarded.

If you're talking about a 12" and a 15" from the same line of subs, and the ONLY thing that differs is the cone size/basket, then the 15" will theoretically be able to produce lower frequencies more efficiently. This is assuming you have both subs in their ideal enclosure.

opposite. a man that can run an 8 that can outperform your 15 is a better man.
And pwnt.

15's VS 12's, of the same brand and model, the 15 will be louder because of cone area. They will sound *basically* the same, all things similar (box, power, etc). The reason a lot of people think 15's sound "boomy" is because most all who have used 15's and said this have a horrid front stage that can't keep up with the 15's in the midbass range. A good 15, with a good front stage, INSTALLED CORRECTLY, will sound just as good as a 12, all things considered. I've heard 15's sound like shit, and I've heard 15's that were amazing. Install is more key than anything else.

To each his own.

still too vague...
you cant compare/contrast the two, because cone size is not indicitive of anything at all...

we can give you generalizations, but they are not facts. this question is kind of like saying "whats the performance differences between cars and trucks"

we could give you generalizations (cars are faster, better handling, etc), but then again, they would be generalizations. and a ford lightning or dodge SRT10 pickup are going to be faster and better handling than most cars, and several trucks could be faster/better handling than many cars... hopefully this helps clear up my point a bit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
maybe thats what he needs if he's askin q's like this

y...... cause the op doesn't doesn't know?

2-12's>1-15>1-12>jooo

Soundwise, they'll sound the same. When comparing the same model of course..generally speaking. Some companys like kicker and alpine can affod to use different motors for different size woofers in their line, so that statement doesn't neccisarilly apply here.

Why is everyone bs-ing? Everyone saying that the ONLY difference in a 15 and a 12 is cone area? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif Wrong.

Here is an example:

Compare the Kicker 12 inch L7 with the 15 inch.

15 inch :

1000 watts rms

Frequency response: 18 hz - 100 hz

12 inch:

750 watts rms

Frequency response: 20 - 100 hz

So...as far as Kicker L7s go 15 inch subs have more cone area, HANDLE MORE POWER, AND GET LOWER than the same model 12 inch sub. Cant argue with the facts.

Here are more examples:

Fi Fully loaded 15 vs 12---

The 15 inch is rated to get down to 34.5hz, while the 12 only goes as low as 37.8 hz efficently. Look it up if you dont believe me. So Fi 15s get LOWER and MOVE MORE AIR then Fi's 12s. Cant argue with the facts.

RE xxx 15 vs 12 ----

The 15 inch RE XXX gets down to 19.10 hz while the 12 inch can only go as low as 21 hz. Also, the 15 is MORE EFFICENT with a rating at 85.81 db compared to the 12's 83.76.

You cant argue with the facts girls, Its obvious: 15s Get LOWER than 12s, and are more efficent in doing it. They also MOVE MORE AIR, and in some cases they HANDLE MORE POWER. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

A little research goes a long way. Now all you people with 12s, 10s, 8s, etc...stop bsing. 15s DO get lower, move more air, are more efficent, and sometimes handle more power. The facts are the facts.

Now you can spew off any bs you want about "audible differences" and "practical purposes." But the facts dont lie. Anyway you look at it (other than taking up less space): 15 > 12/10/8. Period.
