What is the bit called...

I don't think it's a bit, normally it's just double baffle with the outer baffle having a larger circle cut in it...
Nah I'm pretty sure there is a specific bit for it. The way you are talking about is the way i've always done it but I'm pretty sure there is a bit to do it also. It doesn't make it as deep with the bit, only about a half inch instead of the full 3/4

just don't plunge all the way through the wood

No box builders i know cut 1/2 out the wood to flush the subs. All use another piece of wood. But people do it to make like baffles for tweeters etc. Just use the 1/4 spiral upcut set your router so it only plunges so deep and keep making 1/4 passes however big u want the circle

I think what you are looking for is called a rabbit bit............cut out the circle starting from your inner circle diameter and work out to your outer circle in increments...then cutout your mounting hole last

just plunge it down to the depth you want it mounted/flushed at.....if it's a 1/4" bit it will carve out in 1/2" at a time...so do the math for each pass and mark accordingly on your jasper jig...make sense??..lol

so if your first cutout is 11 1/8 then the next is 11 5/8 then 12 1/8 and so on till your last pass...
