What is soo bad about sony?

sony spends alot of money in r and d if they wanted to be amongst the best at anything in electronics trust me they could. the z-50 c-910 and c-90 were all what 3-4 years ahead of their time? only reason they dropped them was red tape. they figured there was no market for it, their choice. they did however get a little upset and released 3 new decks this year (mid level price) that cant be called junk. im sure in japan if they felt the market existed they would still be making hi end car stuff but they really dont see the need from a $ standpoint. when the market is good they toy with things when it gets bad the cut the wasted $ from a business stand point

Ya if you don't know what you're talking about Jmac will call you on it, but one time i did have to explain an equation to him over force. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

we have a sony big screen and its had lots of problems.. like the color tubes going out alot, but after we replaced them all, no problems yet so far and we never had to pay anything to get it fix

Alright... from what ive seen on this board, u guys are very against sony and other companies like audiobahn. I can see why u dont like most audiobahn subs, cuz from what ive sampled and tested out they really sound bad. But what about sony? Ive only tried them out at best buy once, but compared to the rockfords and pioneer subs in the same prcie range they sounded a lot better.
Help a new guy out and save hiom from making a mistake on sub choice.

What's do bad about Sony?

In short - the people who constantly bash them.

Feeble minded bandwagon hoppers who largely have little to no experience with the brand, and likely far less experience with electronics as a whole.

I'm flat out sick of this crap.

Perhaps if more competent people were behind the operation, Sony Products would be favored a little more.

If this post offends you by reading it; good. Then the above applies to you.

WoodyRAL - I've personally used, installed, operated, Sony Equipment for well over 10 years with no issues in their home, automotive, or pro, products at all.

Heck, I used to evaluate their products in real world application, and report my observations back to their distributors.

I still have an old "Entry Level" EXCD-21 Car CD/TUNER (Circa 1996) that is installed, going strong, and has yet to cause a hint of problem. It's currently pushing a pair of old Sony 5.45" Coaxials from the same year. Those are also functioning without issue since they were installed nearly 7 years ago.

I could continue to ramble off the numerous Sony Products that I have used without problem, but what would the point be?

The real point I can make is that I have yet to have a Sony Product fail or cause the slightest issue in over 10 years.

I'd chalk that up to a little more than luck.

H*ll, may be it is because I actually do know how to operate them.

There is nothing wrong with Sony Products. They are decently designed, incredibly durable, and a definate value compared to their counter parts.

most of their car audio products (minus the headunits... and some of those too) are total shit, and you can debate it all you want but the experiences tell the story. go buy some sony subs, tell me if you still think the reason they sound shitty is because of the end user?

Any piece of equipment can ****. And any piece can be made to sound decent, in a proper install. That being said sony can be made to sound great.

But In my personal experience with them I have been let down. This does not make them a horrible company. I still run their flag ship HU.

Product reliabilty is what I have been turned off about.

True.. But for the money, I believe you can get much better. Like on PMR for example, what was it... like 13 explods... Spend half that, and get alot better.

After Reviewing several HD CDT TV's ...the sony's picture on the XS modle owned every TV I looked at and reviewd (im talking color reproduction, space between pixels whitness reproduction etc..)

Even Including all those fancy LCD's that people drool over. I still think CRT's have their place and for the money you get a much larger and more clear picture on a GOOD crt than even the best LCD's.

I almost got a samsung but the picture was not nearly as crisp and sharp. In fact I did not even like any other CRT's I looked at, the Samsung was a close second but was not on par picture quality wise as the sony. I think the reason is many companies are not producing or putting much thought into their HD CRT's cause there is an LCD craze going on right now and they ca get away with charging ridiculous prices for LCD TV's that are outdated every year. While CRT's are still capable of producing a more clear picture.

Mitsu CRT's are good for monitors even among the best but they no longer make HD CRT TV's...So the Sony did own all others in terms of image quality and whites and overall clarity/features...(Built in HD Tuner so I get free HDTV)

However I should mention that the POS broke in the first 2 months and sony did not even know how to properly fix it, they had to put in some revised part (Q-Box)which was not compatable compleatly with another part. Eventualy they came out with a fix which was a capacitor that was missing from the mainboard all modles of this TV (cause they did not need it due to the older Q-box) even the ones that are still on the shelves right now that have the older Q-box in them(the part that went bad on mine). Took several months and hours of my time waiting for the repair guy to come run tests (somethign like 10 visits) while sony denied there was a problem untill the fix was discovered.. (THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE MY NEW TV)All of a sudden they knew exactly how to fix it after replacing every board inside, and one of the new boards they put inside needed a capacitor the size of a grain of salt.

Well in the end I have an upgraded TV with a super picture. but it was a ridiculous process and I hate sony now. I almsot bouht a non eclispe HU jsut because the eclipse HU's use SONY memory stick...I'm still mad at them for making me wait 6 months to properly fix my BRAND NEW HD TV... They could have at least got me a loaner or something...Any Good company would have replaced it. A TV should laster longer than 2 months, and hell I did not even use it that much.

most of their car audio products (minus the headunits... and some of those too) are total shit, and you can debate it all you want but the experiences tell the story.

Apparently the experiences telling a story not conclusive with your own are faulty then?

go buy some sony subs, tell me if you still think the reason they sound shitty is because of the end user?
The end user and their actions are typically the key variance in the quality of response an audio system produces.

5% Product

95% Install

Now tell me that you have not heard an Alpine, JL, or Eclipse System that didn't sound like crap...........

Given the right enclosure, processing, power, I can make a Kraco Subwoofer sound like a million bucks.

But by your logic, I just purchased it that way........
