What is soo bad about sony?

Alright... from what ive seen on this board, u guys are very against sony and other companies like audiobahn. I can see why u dont like most audiobahn subs, cuz from what ive sampled and tested out they really sound bad. But what about sony? Ive only tried them out at best buy once, but compared to the rockfords and pioneer subs in the same prcie range they sounded a lot better.

Help a new guy out and save hiom from making a mistake on sub choice.

i like the specialty series headunits, as far as the subs go... having 5 sides is beyond a gimic, most of the sony line is cosmetic. if your getting stereo equipment it should be function over all else. But hey, if you think they sounded better thats all you need.

If they sounded fine to you then go for them. That is the most important thing. But in my own personal experience, I did not like them. And I do not know for sure, but I hear they do not last long. But it's all a choice of taste man. You can even get some very good deals on them online.

Everything... I wont buy because other sony products ive owned are made like shit... But the subs wear out fast... and its just cheap.

BTW, any sub will last a long time if you don't constantly push it to/past its limits ...
Gotta say I agree with Jmac //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

. o O (did I just say that?!)

I bought a set of Fosgate 'The Punch'-series SVC 8 Ohm 10s once at a pawn shop for $45. '92 model year subs...I happened across them in '97.

Had 'em in several different boxes in several different rides on several different amps through the years I used 'em.

They now reside in my ex-landlady's Camry on 200 watts between the pair in a 1 cubic foot/side sealed box.

Are they outstanding? No...pretty outdated, really. But they still do sound good...don't need heaps of power (only rated for 100w RMS each) and keep on bangin' year after year. 13 years of mostly solid day-to-day use is pretty good at any price.

If you found some Sony subs that you liked and feel they'll give ya what you're after then get 'em, mang! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Put 'em in a suitable enclosure, power them properly (dependant on what their specs are) and don't abuse 'em...they ought to last you awhile, I'd say.

The main reason you'll find alot of Sony bashing on this forum, IMO, is there's too many options available that are simply better than anything labeled 'Xplod' for Sony to be a real consideration anymore.

Once upon a time you could rest assured if your stereo gear was Sony-built it was at the very least a solid mid-level unit well worth the money paid for it. Then the almighty marketing machine took over and bottom-line profit margins became more important than upholding the quality and reliability reputation Sony took such great pains over many decades to create. As a result those days have unfortunately passed us by //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

It happens.

if someone's buying p5's, chances are they have no clue what clipping means.

if u wanna know why people hate sony's (not mobile ES series), go listen to them. then compare to something else. if u like the way it sounds, go ahead and buy it. most of us dont like the way they sound, while some others jump on the "i hate sony" bandwagon without actually listening. your ears > everyone else's opinions.

also take into consideration you were listening to these in a showroom most likely inprefab boxes, with untuned amps. i went through like 4 sony subs when i first started into car audio. i would always go to walmart and put the blown one back in the box and return it. onces i pressed my thumb lightly on the cone and it cracked in half.

I used to run Sony for my fronts, the expensive $70 6.5" triaxials. Looking back, the midrange was insanely bright, they had no midbass, harsh highs, and sounded about as natural as gay ***. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif They did improve overall after I amped them (85w / channel Jensen) but in the end they just didn't cut it. You'd think for that price Sony could make speakers that make music sound kind of like music. =\

I also owned a Sony HU. That didn't give me any problems. I gave it to a girlfriend, it bugged out. Her friend fixed it, and it plays today. She's like the 3rd owner.

I can't think of anything sony that is really a good value. I mean they make some nice tvs but they are "JL priced" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. SONY SUX period
