What is preamp output on amps?

ive always had this question, im not quite sure if its a stupid one or not, nevertheless, what is the real purpose of a preamp output.

Im running a mono alpine mrd m1000 and it has a preamp output , but as far asm concerned it only specifies to wire my subs rca to the other outputs.

The outputs allow you to wire up another amp without having to run another set of RCAs from the HU. Most of the time they are simple pass throughs that output the same signal that is sent to the amp. In the other cases, the amp's internal crossover can filter the output.

But if you are runnning a processor, how do you process each amp individually if you are sharing rca signal

You don't. But most people don't run processors. It's just another feature that not everyone uses.
