What is a 'remote' for the subs/amp?

i dont know what it is called, but my friend who has subs was talking about it. He says that this thing came with his setup so he can change the volume of the subs while in the driver seat... I just got my subs and amp, and apparently one of those didnt come with them so he was saying that it wont sound as good. cuz he says the way he does it he can turn the bass down on his speakers with the equalizer (on his deck) and use the remote thing to control the bass on the subs so the stock speakers dont sound bad from the bass. he says i wont be able to do this cuz the equalizer on my deck will control the settings for both the speakers and the subs.

so... does anyone know what this remote thing is? will it affect my sound like he says it will? should/can i get one?

Its basically a remote lol, its a little knob thing and its a wire run from it to the amp and you can turn the bass up or down....I did a terrible job of explaining that, let one of the experts help you, and wat kind of amp do you have?

Depending on the model of amp it will-

A- Be a remote gain ajustment knob to adjust the input sensitivity of the amp.

B- Be a remote bass boost ajustment knob that boosts output of frequencys around 40 hz, some have ajustable frequency.

You do not need one of these to make your system sound better, just high pass your mids/highs and the low frequency ajustments of your headunit will only play through your subwoofers.

Misuse of a remote bass knob usually just ends up with damaged speakers.

You just need a crossover, alot of head units have this feature built right in.

It cuts back the low frequencys going to your speakers.

Your friends an idiot. ANything he's doing with that remote can be manually set on the amp.
